A new trailer for the upcoming Dungeons and Dragons storytelling engine Menyr breaks down some of the platform's key features.

Running Dungeons & Dragons in the era of the COVID-19 pandemic is challenging, to say the least. However, Dungeons & Dragons players are not only creative, but they're also always willing to put more time into the hobby. The result is a wave of online tools enabling Dungeons & Dragons players to deliver and play campaigns in increasingly exciting ways. Just one example is the upcoming "storytelling engine" Menyr, which recently shared a new trailer detailing some of the platform's features.

Menyr's features trailer delves into three areas of focus, Virtual Table Top, World Building, and Storytelling. As most online Dungeons & Dragons players will attest, the virtual tabletop technology is incredibly important to get right. This is where games will be played, after all. If features are missing, then the game can't be played. The features Menyr is showcasing in this video include virtual dice rolling, multi-view gameplay, a character library of tokens, and a lobby to act as a social area while the virtual tabletop is set up.

Next to a virtual tabletop in importance, where campaigns are played, is Menyr's World Building system, where campaigns are built. Dungeon masters will be able to build worlds to explore in Menyr, in addition to dungeons and more. The World Building features Menyr shows in the video include procedural landscape creation, biome painting to create quick environments, terraforming, and a dungeon generator.

The last area of focus for Menyr's features trailer is very interesting. It's tied into how the DM is able to tell their story as it's happening. The best example is the DM's ability to control time, which will alter the lighting and skyscape in the virtual tabletop. Other features listed under storytelling include Menyr's asset toolbox, which could have probably gone in the world-building focus since it includes enemies, season and weather control, and also a cinematic camera with which to take photographs.

Overall, Menyr has put together a tight video showcasing exactly what it can offer Dungeons & Dragons players. It certainly seems of solid construction, and its aesthetics make it more attractive visually than other similar Dungeons & Dragons virtual platforms. It still needs to deliver a polished, easy-to-use experience, though.

Menyr isn't available yet, but its development team has plans coming soon. The video is an effort to draw more attention to the project because Menyr's development team plans to launch a Kickstarter project soon. The campaign isn't live yet, but Dungeons & Dragons players can look forward to hearing more about Menyr before long.
