Round Up: Every Physical Game From Limited Run's Summer Showcase Coming To Switch | Nintendo Life

There are even some 3DS, N64 and SNES releases

Limited Run Games earlier today aired its LRG3 Summer Showcase. As usual, there were a lot of Switch announcements. There were also some other Nintendo-related announcements for platforms like the 3DS, Nintendo 64 and Super Nintendo.

We've included a full video recap of the show (above) if you would like to see how all the action unfolded. It certainly went out with a bang - with the reveal of a DOOM Eternal physical edition for Switch.

Any games here you'll be adding to your own Nintendo Switch physical collection? Tell us down in the comments.

When he’s not paying off a loan to Tom Nook, Liam likes to report on the latest Nintendo news and admire his library of video games. His favourite Nintendo character used to be a guitar-playing dog, but nowadays he prefers to hang out with Judd the cat.

1.) Surely games like Tetris and DOOM didn’t need limited runs. They of course could’ve just released them normally. I genuinely have such a strong dislike for Limited Run and their overpriced, underwhelming “collector’s editions.” These games deserve to be on store shelves.

2.) With my dislike in mind, I may grab the Kokopolo release, just because Kokopolo is a good game and it’s such a hilarious choice for a physical 3DS limited run.

Yes finally Doom Eternal, PowerSlaves Exhumed, TMNT: Shredder's Revenge, Enclave, Tetris Effect Connected, Rendering Ranger, SkelAttack, Shadowrun Trilogy, Blossom Tales 2, and KOTOR 2 are all good selections. Still odd that they are doing a lot of FMV and garbage stuffs too, American Hero is okay but Bill & Ted's Excellent Retro Collection and Plumbers Don't Wear Tie?

There goes my financial stability...

Hm...hard pass on most of them. though River City Gilrs 2 is quite tempting.

That is...if I'm able to get a hold of one copy!

Also, it took this long for a Doom Eternal physical copy to release? Really waited to rip into that one.

Woohoo! Plumbers don’t wear Ties! Yes its about time this classic came back. Definitely a game everyone needs to experience.

A Boy and his Blob, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Shredder's Revenge, Blossom Tales 2, River City Girls 2, Doom Eternal, Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic II, and Go Go Kokopolo 3D interest me.

Some real good ones. I can't remember if I saw this announcement a while back or not, but blossom tales II is phenomenal news. One of the better zelda likes on the system.

Do people really love being exploited that much just for a physical copy of a game? F LRG.

@LittleGhost Since publishers don't want a warehouse full of unwanted disc/cartridges (avoiding another videogame crash) this is the only way we'll get them. Also not every dev could afford to pay Nintendo to get a physical cartridge so they had to go through a limited publisher like LRG to do it.

Plumbers Don’t Wear Ties?!?!?!?! 😂😂😂😂😂😂

Tetris Effect and Doom Eternal within a couple weeks of each other? well, looks like I'm eating instant noodles all through July 😅

@LittleGhost I've bought many games from LRG and haven't been exploited yet. been very satisfied with each game I've ordered from them.

LRG is such a scam. Enjoy paying 70 bucks for something I paid $5 on. lol

Tetris Effect might be the first Limited Run game I actually get...in large part because it's $40, just like the digital version (though I'm assuming there will be shipping fees and whatnot). Sort of a novelty, but I'm more willing to bite because of that; I don't care much for the idea of doubledipping on a more expensive physical release. Hoping they snap Portal Companion Collection up, too, even though I expect that to be more expensive

Thank you Doom Eternal and Tetris, I’ve held out for these. I’m happy to see more 3DS physical, but not my first choice….

@korosanbo Not according to VGPC. Glover is a fairly common, cheap game. Some of these choices are truly bizarre. Bill and Ted, why? Now Rendering Ranger makes sense, as that game was exclusive to Japan and is very expensive today.

Seeing Konami using LRG is truly disgusting, when they're a multibillion dollar international business. That company has no shame.

I have no love for this exploitative business model of LRG, but there are some gems in here like KOTOR 2 (Disney) and Doom Eternal (Bethesda). I'm very interested in the final(?) 3DS release Kokopolo.

@Serpenterror I'm really happy that the small indie dev Bethesda owned by the small indie studio Microsoft is getting this opportunity to release a physical version of their niche game!

I am getting a hunch Glover won't just stop at a N64 reboot cart.

I am expecting PS and Nintendo releases later this year.

@bonjong23 But you can play it in the future when the eshop closes with physical releases.

@CharlieGirl unfortunately it’ll be July 2023 before they ship them!

You missed out ‘Deathwish Enforcers’ and gutted we didn’t get a release date for Shredders Revenge.

@bonjong23 seriously. I can only watch so many games sell at a fraction of the price while I wait 10 months for everyone else to finish playing before I get my copy... soaked in regrets.

As someone from Mexico who doesn't buy online, there go my chances of getting Tetris Effect Connected in physical format.

@CharlieGirl you're lucky. Personally, I'm Tired of waiting 6+ months for something I could have gotten for far less money even sooner. Paying $50 and 6 months for a $10 game? Thats less than ideal.

I'd get doom, no way my parents let me though. But Tetris, ooooh boy

@CharlieGirl Considering the fact that some games that previously received a limited release ended up getting a wide release that was a lot cheaper (e.g. 50 euro for Streets of Rage 4 LRG vs the 20-30 euro price for the wide release), it's easy to feel exploited by the company, although this may come down to location.

There was a time, when I could go to a local store and buy video games. But with companies like Konami and Bethesda now releasing their games exclusively via LRG - even for AAA titles like Doom Eternal - LRG is killing physical media as a normal consumer product.

I am not willing to pay 15$ shipping per game. I am not willing to pay a game a half year in advance. I am not willing to play their FOMO game and buy a game before reviews are out. I am not able to explain my children, why games produced in Japan have to be shipped to the US, before they are sent to Europe. Sorry, my copy of Castlevania is more important then this planet?

LRG was the reason, why I went all-digital.

You should all try the demo for Frogun, it's very fun and very cute.

A Boy and His Blob: Retro Collection I'm excited as I was thinking about this just the other day, but also miffed. This should have been included with the release of the Wii port - for which they are currently taking pre-orders - rather than spacing it out between two separate releases, particularly as this is just two 8-bit ROMs on a Switch cartridge. How bloody wasteful.

DOOM Eternal I just can't muster the enthusiasm for this yet. I've been patient, and I'm willing to pay what it takes for a proper honest-to-God physical release with the entirety of the game, patches, and DLC on a single cart. This has the potential to be byfar the best physical release across all platforms with absolutely everything on a cart with no download/installation requirements. Time will tell, but I'm bracing for crushing disappointment.

Konami Arcade Classics I've been keen on all three of Konami's classic collections (the others being Contra and Castlevania, which have already had physical releases issued), but they should have consolidated the three collections into a single cartridge rather than this spaced-out BS. These sorts of business practices surely will not instill confidence in LRG among some customers in the long-term. Plus, the three collections are routinely available at dirt-cheap prices via the eShop, which adds further insult to injury.

River City Girls 2 Will add to the collection, though I should start blazing through all my Double Dragon and Kunio-kun games sooner or later.

Tetris Effect: Connected Given the high price, I've been fairly confident that a physical release would follow in some form. What's bonkers is that this will be my FOURTH physical Tetris game on Switch.

Damn. I was kinda hoping Corpse Party would get a physical release on PS4/Switch.

Nice to know Spidersaurs is getting an LRG release ahead of time, although I'll still probably grab it digitally anyway.

@HammerGalladeBro Maybe have a friend order the game for you?

So many schmups. I'll pick up a few from that list. But over, underwhelming for me.

@LittleGhost When I got Carrion from them, they actually sent me a download code for it too since COVID delayed it. So technically I could have been dishonest and resold it unopened.

I get the pre-order period, so that they can be sure to fulfill all demand. But they could have the best of both worlds if they did a small batch upfront for punctual shipment at a quantity they know they'll sell through and then a second batch much later based on a large order window for those who want to wait for reviews, awards shows, etc.

So many upset people at LRG. Buy it digitally if you don't like it, I have. I understand that if it was released on a larger scale it would be cheaper and easier to get. Would I like a normal retail release? Yes I would. Can it happen for every Switch title? No it can't. It isnt good business practice especially at a time like this with shipping shortages, a pandemic and global uncertainty. If it wasn't for LRG I wouldn't have been able to collect as many indie titles as I have in physical form. I like that they at least offer a way for me to get a game physically that otherwise wouldn't see the light of day. Beats having none at all. It isn't perfect but not a lot is these days.

I'll be getting a lot of these, so many great titles announced.

Glover? Haha amazing! I love what these companies do supporting physical games, the hate on here is ridiculous!

Very happy to see the great Go Go Kokopolo 3D getting some love

They couldn't have picked a worse company name. Every time I see it I immediately don't want what they're selling because it always strikes as preying on that fear of missing out. And I like physical games but this whole notion of being future proof by buying physical is silly. Physical media comes with just as many points of failure many of which are entirely uncontrollable like theft or natural disasters. And the way things go, every Switch game is going to be archived and ready to be sideloaded the day the eShop closes anyway.

Ouch. From what I hear, "American Hero" was originally developed as an actually pornographic FMV game for the Atari Jaguar CD. I watched one of my streamer pals play through it and they had to literally blank out half the game. This version here is apparently the result of cutting the game into something reasonable able of being sold.

No Castlevania Advance Collection = massive disappointment. Still there were 5 games that I will get from this announcement

@Piyo I hate to break it to you but ... yes, Castlevania is more important than the planet.

❗️I only care for TMNR:SR and ShadowRun.

River City Girls 2 should really be getting a normal release.

Welp hoping the games I want show up in Best Buy.

I'm getting Doom Eternal, Plumbers Don't Wear Ties, Powerslave Exhumed, American Hero and Blade Runner: Enhanced Edition. I'm hoping D and Prize Fighter get Switch versions. I pray Alan Wake Remastered, Snatcher, Portal: Companion Collection and Fallout 3 get physical releases in the future for Switch.

@CharlieGirl I'll probably be eating sawdust in July since that's when I'm finally getting my Rent-a-Girlfriend car wrap which so far I've dropped $5000 on to accomplish 🤣

@bonjong23 I spent $250 on Clannad which is $40 or $50 in the eShop and I'm just fine with my purchase. LRG are saving gaming in my opinion.

@EVIL-C I'm loving that Konami are picking LRG because it means we might actually have a chance for Snatcher to finally get a port! I've waited decades for that.

@Ralizah They are currently selling Yumeutsutsu Re:Master as a distribution release. I bought it and it should be shipped in a couple weeks or less.

https://limitedrungames.com/collections/all-games/products/yumeutsutsu-re-master-re-after-switch

@JustMonika A multibillion-dollar international corporation, that's also a video game veteran and icon, can publish their own games. They don't need the help of a boutique publisher who was originally supposed to help smaller independent games get physical releases.

If you can't understand that, may the gaming gods help you.

Backed Lunark when it was a Kickstarter, shame we dont have the option to upgrade our pledge to get the physical. The game isn't even finished yet so this is going to be a long wait.

I have all the games I would want there digitally. I suspect they'll be good for at least 15 years in that format before Switch server shutdowns.

Beyond that I'm sure they'll be a way by the late 2030s to emulate them considering a Switch can already be emulated on modern hardware. Moreover, most of those games are multiformat so it's unlikely they'll be zero ways to access them.

It is a fallacy that you need to give these charlatans money and wait a year for them to deliver to play any of these games thirty plus years from now (if you'd even want to by then).

What a waste of the earths resources, but a great method for fuelling the future ebay market.

No love for Bill and Ted? For shame...

I hate that Bethesda require you to make an online account with them before being able to play their game.

I thought the showcase was really well put together. actually entertaining. There were a few games I was interested in... I want powerslave.

Funny that the slogan is "Forever Physical". If you don't pre-order the first day then what you want is pretty much gone. What's the budget for each series? £1000. Pointless company that relies on FOMO.

Yes, they are awful but defended passionately by some due to the dopamine rush adding another "sought after" plastic case to the shelf gives them.

It's delusional to believe you need to buy these products to ensure playability of any of these titles in the future.

@Bayjax Most of their games have an open pre order for between a month and 6 weeks.

Not bad overall. Will get Espgaluda II, DoDonPachi Resurrection, Doom Eternal, TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge (hopefully it won’t get a cheaper physical release in Europe soon afterwards the same as Streets of Rage 4 did 🤔), Tetris Effect: Connected and Konami Arcade Classics Anniversary Collection.

Also interested in Rendering Ranger and Bladerunner.

Hoping for Castlevania Advance Collection soon 🤞🤞🤞

Having bought several games from LRG my gripes would be 1) The long waiting time with a severe lack of updates (been waiting about a year for my Switch Castlevania Anniversary Collection Ultimate Edition) and 2) A couple of the games I’ve bought have arrived with damaged cases/boxes. Not ideal when you’ve paid upfront and then waited months only for the product to not be in perfect condition.

@Orokosaki that's fine, I can wait. got plenty of games to play til then.

@Daniel36 No, too much pain, too much out of bounds jumping 😵

Oh joy, more games you can pre-order and expect to ship in 2025...

Rendering Ranger R-2 is a good game. This should've been brought over during the SNES years.

Bill & Ted's Excellent Retro Collection is the only garbage-announcement. Those games are not good. They're not "charming" like the FMV games.

I have a few thoughts to share: I'm definitely not going out of my way to get Collector's Editions for any of these, but I definitely will be picking up Doom Eternal to complete my collection. I was expecting this game to eventually get a physical release through LRG, so I held off on buying Doom Eternal until now, and it paid off. I hope this comes with all the DLC, because what's the point of it being physical otherwise? I'm also excited for River City Girls 2 and TMNT: Shredder's Revenge.

Why the hell are they re-releasing Glover on N64? Glover 2 was canceled because there were too many copies of Glover for Hasbro to sell. This version also has PIKO Interactive's logo on it, which is a disgrace to the game and its original creators, as well as video game preservation. I'll stick with the cartridge I have, which I bought for $5 at a local game store.

That Shantae statue looks great, but I hate that the acrylic standees are sold with the PS5 versions of the games I already bought for Switch, and only with the Collector's Editions of those games. Otherwise you can buy the GameBoy-styled acrylic standees, which don't look as good. It would be nice if they sold the standees individually, but I wouldn't count on LRG to be consumer friendly.

Whoever heard of Plumbers Don't Wear Ties from anyone besides the Angry Video Game Nerd? I feel like games like this can stay buried under the sands of time, and it's a shame to see another bad game brought back because a YouTuber made it a meme, like Bubsy.

@Daniel36 What were they thinking?!

@Magician That and Glover were the ones that stumped me the most. Bill and Ted objectively is a terrible game. Only reason I can think of is it was dirt cheap for the rights. When I see some of their releases it always reminds me of the Jurassic Park line. To paraphrase "You were so busy wondering if you could you didn't stop to think if you should."

In the end I don't have to buy it and if it makes others happy that's cool. But it is bizarre.

@MH4 It was so disappointing when Bethesda canned the Physical for Doom Eternal (and delayed the Switch port to Dec 2021 digital only). Hurt even more that it was during the 2020 drought where there were no games to play at that time. I was kinda surprised considering how well Doom 2016 sold and was able to run on the platform. Really hoping LRG does justice with a full package including the DLC.

@KayFiOS I used to see Plumbers Don't Wear Ties on Store shelves for the 3DO when I was younger and have been wanting to play that train wreck ever since, lol .. I read lots of articles about it when I was a kid. Now my time has finally come after almost 30 years, lol. That was around 1994/1995.. I didn't see the Nerd video of it until 2017 or 2018.

FINALLY they put DOOM Eternal on cart!

I always wondered how "Random Shm'up #526" could get a physical release but DOOM was stuck on digital...at the very least it will clear up 10+GB from my SD card..

@Bayjax Didn't they recently open a physical store where they sell overstock of certain games?

Also there are a few games on the website you can just outright purchase, e.g. Crysis 2 and Crysis 3.

But yes, most games are only produced to order which helps them supposedly reduce risk and loss of profit

@JustMonika Well that's awesome! But you're probably in the minority, I could be wrong. I feel like most people only know about this game because of AVGN. But if you are finally getting to experience this game for the first time, after years and years of knowing about it, then I'm happy for ya! Enjoy the hot mess lol

Lots of stuff here I want! My most wanted ones are the Bill and Ted collection, and Glover.

What happened to the Night in the Woods release?

"Collectors" who buy games to sit unplayed <----------------------------------------- Limited Run willingness to exploit -------------------------------------------> FOMO/mistaken belief of value

Why limit a physical release of Tetris.

It's [email protected]%$ing Tetris.

Glad to see Tetris Effect get a physical release. Doom Eternal is a neat choice too, but I hear pretty mixed things about the game compared to Doom '16.

@KayFiOS Well I am 39 after all and began gaming in 1989 so I'd think most 90's gamers would know about it because it was notorious even back then because of all the magazine coverage it had, lol. The 3DO is the one system I always wanted but never got.. and I even owned a 32X and Jaguar, lol.

"When I got Carrion from them, they actually sent me a download code for it too since COVID delayed it. So technically I could have been dishonest and resold it unopened."

The only one I have any interest in is Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Shredder's Revenge.

Only ones I’ll be getting for sure are Do Don Pachi 2 and Espagaluda.
